![]() ![]() Her claims regarding the possibility of fighting death and eliminating art are paradoxical, having lousy argumentation, as well as most of the ideas mentioned in the Manifesto. Solanas highly criticizes the art, politics, religion, science, and other foundations based on which society is built. Valerie’s inflammatory work is full of different topics and problems in modern society. The ideas reflected in writing should not be treated seriously, but these thoughts can be used to better understand the emotions of women and improve gender relationships in society. However, her work is critical in identifying the problems of society. ![]() It is also vital to highlight that Solanas was diagnosed with schizophrenia (Solanas, 1968). Her Manifesto contains many offensive utterances and seems illogical at first glance. Valerie criticizes the existing functioning of society through the prism of feminism. The work touches upon many spheres of human life, such as philosophy, religion, politics, and others. Based on gender differences and inequality, the author of the Manifesto, Valerie Solanas, represents a unique view of society’s order emphasizing the woman as an essential element of creation. The SCUM Manifesto is a work that reflects the theory of the representative of the radical feminism movement. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reading is not enough i need to eat the book Įdited to add: general content warnings for those who benefit from them:īody horror, gore, explicit violence, domestic abuse, violence against children If you would like to see photos of some of the locations which feature in The Book Eaters, please click here or copy/paste (this link DOES contain spoilers). I know that this book will not be for everyone, and that is completely okay! I hope your next book pleases you better <3 This is not a novel I ever thought I'd write, but then this isn't the life I ever thought I'd lead, so maybe those things go hand in hand? Hope you enjoy, Dear Reader. I'm super slow, sorry! I wrote this book while crawling through a very difficult period of my life, and though it is far from perfect I am still really happy to have seen it across the finish line. The "read" dates are roughly the amount of time it took to write, revise, and hand in my completed edits on it. This is not the first novel I've written, only the first I managed to get published, and I did not start out in short fiction - I only began writing shorts a couple of years ago. That would feel very strange! I'm just filling out this review form because YIKES, I have a novel on Goodreads! Don't worry, I'm not going to star my own book. ![]() ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() ![]() "You're pressing," Carroll said in his office, before handing Jackson a book with a tennis ball on the cover. Stumped, Jackson requested a meeting with head coach Pete Carroll, who now coaches the Seattle Seahawks. "It was just a lot of pressure, and a lot anger and frustration," he said. Fans changed his nickname from "LoJack" to "NoSack." The following week, immediately after another sack-less game against Stanford, he learned that a close relative had been killed in a car accident. Jackson hadn't managed a solo tackle, much less a sack. Against Oregon State, in October, the Trojans gave up 33 points, and USC was knocked from the national title race. "I decided to go back, and part of that was to improve my numbers."īut eight games into his junior year, Jackson's sack total remained stuck at 16. "People were asking me if I was gonna leave after that year," Jackson recalled recently. Earlier that year, he had ended his sophomore season as a defensive end at the University of Southern California with 16 career sacks and his name high on a number of NFL draft boards. The fall of 2006 was not a good one for Lawrence Jackson. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() While those examples are sobering and spare (they bring to mind the old “The Body Human” series), it’s nevertheless far more interesting, based on the ubiquity of cancer, to consider the arc of how scientists have understood and battled it, a process which, depending on one’s point of view, has either been remarkably fast or maddeningly slow, considering that President Nixon called for a cure in 1971. Yet the impulse to put a human face on cancer’s toll by speckling such cases throughout the three nights tends to bog down the pace. Seeking to go beyond those statistics, the documentary - which derives its poetic title from Siddhartha Mukherjee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book - opens with the story of parents dealing with the disease in their 17-month-old child, about as heartbreaking a thought as anyone could imagine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Chernow’s biography gives Hamilton his due and sets the record straight, deftly illustrating that the political and economic greatness of today’s America is the result of Hamilton’s countless sacrifices to champion ideas that were often wildly disputed during his time. Leading leftist Kissinger critics, including Hitchens, Seymour Hersh, William Shawcross, and Roger Morris bear witness for the prosecution. Based on a long Harper’s article (and later a book) by polemicist Christopher Hitchens, the film builds a case, often heavy-handedly, that for his deeds in Indochina, Chile, and East Timor, Kissinger should be hauled before a world court for war crimes, just like the murderous dictators Slobodan Milosevic and Augusto Pinochet.
